At the October 6, 2015 Branch meeting held at Silverado Smokehouse Vice-President Michael York presented Past-President Michelle Patton with an appreciation plaque.  This was given as sincere thanks for her dedication to the ASCE Corpus Christi Branch during the years she served as an officer, particularly as President during 2014 - 2015.  A great deal was accomplished by the organization during this time under her capable leadership.  Michelle has the distinction of being the fifth female President of the Branch during its sixty-five year history and she set a great example for those who will follow.  Previous female Presidents include Julie Kenfield ('86 - '87), Natasha Fudge ('04 - '05), Melanie Gavlik ('09 - '10), and Sarah Briscoe ('10 - '11).

Becky McMillon, Interim Executive Director of the San Patricio Economic Development Corporation, gave a noteworthy presentation to a crowd of 23 attendees (including 6 non-members) on the many interesting projects taking place over the next several years in San Patricio County.  She made the point that there is enough work for everybody!

Thank you for taking part in the October meeting for the ASCE Corpus Christi branch. During this meeting, we had the pleasure of listening to a highly informative presentation on the storm of 1919 in Corpus Christi. This storm event is the biggest experienced in Corpus Christi. This presentation was provided by our friend, Jim Moloney. His collection of postcards from the time before and after the storm gave us an eyewitness perspective of the level of destruction that a slow moving hurricane can cause.  He also tied the storm to many significant events in Corpus Christi history such as the construction of the sea wall and the Port of Corpus Christi. We would like to thank Jim for the presentation. Thank you for taking part in the kick-off meeting for the ASCE Corpus Christi branch. During this meeting we were introduced to the new board of directors for the 2014-2015 season. We would like to thank our outgoing president, Doug McMullen, PE, and his board for a great 2013-2014 season. We also had a very informative presentation by Curtis Beitel, PE, our ASCE Texas Section President, on the the Corpus Christi Salt Flats Levee and FEMAs Nueces County LAMP (Levee Analysis and Mapping Procedures) Pilot Project system for mitigating storm event loses and providing a means of identifying flood plains to aid in flood protection services. Please visit this link for photographs of this event.
